ISLAMABAD: As many as six consecutive parliament sessions on the matter of extension for military courts have ended with no result.
The speaker of National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has decided to contact PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to halt boycott of the party. JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has also been given a similar task in this regard. NA speaker stated that all parties have agreed on extension of military courts, but the bone of contention is its duration and draft.
The sixth session featured no development, but shifted to a back gear. After the boycott of the session by PTI and PPP, other parties namely ANP and MQM have put two demands in front of the session. First is to retain the previous draft and the second is to formulate a parliamentary committee of national interest for the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP).
Moreover, MQM demanded provision of powers to local governments in return for their support to the military courts extension.
The next parliamentary session on the respective matter is scheduled to occur on coming Thursday.
