The Punjab government has announced plans to establish the province’s first Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC), which will cost over Rs13 billion and introduce advanced intelligence and surveillance technology. The initiative aims to strengthen Punjab’s ability to counter terrorism, organised crime, and digital threats using modern tools, ensuring enhanced safety and rapid decision-making at the provincial level.
The new centre will use open-source intelligence systems to monitor social media and other digital platforms, tracking suspicious activities in real time. Moreover, authorities will be equipped with a digital profiling system capable of identifying suspected individuals and criminal elements instantly, thereby improving surveillance and response strategies across Punjab.
In addition, PIFTAC will feature a video analytics system designed to detect suspicious faces and activities, which will increase efficiency in identifying potential risks. A state-of-the-art Chief Minister’s Command and Control Centre will support immediate emergency decision-making, creating a coordinated response mechanism for evolving security challenges.
The project will also include secure data centres and high-performance computing units to maintain intelligence records safely. At the same time, mobile command vans and UAV drones will be deployed in the field, enhancing ground surveillance and operational capacity for law enforcement agencies.
Importantly, PIFTAC is part of the Phase-I rollout of the programme, which will integrate with the federal-level National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC). NIFTAC, established earlier this year, already connects over 50 federal and provincial departments into a national security network, and Punjab’s centre will serve as its provincial extension.
Through this project, the Punjab government is not only upgrading its intelligence infrastructure but also ensuring federal-provincial coordination for national security. With AI-based systems, digital monitoring tools, and real-time data sharing, the province is moving towards a stronger and more secure future.
