KARACHI: City’s Mayor and senior leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Waseem Akhtar is likely to be released today (Wednesday), stepping over the last legal hurdle in way of his release.
Report revealed that the court accepted bail application of Waseem Akhtar in case of providing medical facilities to terrorists. It was last of the 39 cases filed against him.
The bail was granted for security bonds of Rs. 500,000 which he submitted today. After which jail authorities are likely to issue his release orders by this evening.
He has already been granted bail in cases pertaining to provocative speech of the party’s London-based leader Altaf Hussain and the May 12 incidentWaseem Akhtar was elected Karachi Mayor in August this year. Since then, he is running the city affairs from prison.
Waseem Akhter is in police custody since July this year. He is under investigation for several charges, including ordering crackdown on protestors during 12 May, 2007 riots when he was Sindh home minister. The incident resulted in a bloody massacre and death of 40 people.
